Movie Review: Captain Philips can be my Captain any day

Smart, edge of your seat, and thrilling! Captain Phillips can be my captain any day! This movie is 4 stars easily and I can see why the Oscar talk about Tom Hanks is so rampant. He does an amazing job; you no longer see Tom Hanks but Captain Phillips and the supporting cast is amazing. Tom Hanks said, “I was truly petrified of the actors playing Somali pirates.”

Captain Phillips is the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.

I was shocked at the amount of damage and impact 4 people with guns and what is essentially a dingy could do to a huge ocean liner filled with a crew. 4 pirates essentially brought 100’s of Navy soldiers, Navy Seals, and 3 large Navy ships to act to save the life of Captain Phillips. It was really interesting to see how the Navy worked together (even if it was “Hollywoodized”) and saved Phillips in a daring and unexpected way. Captain Phillips acted quickly and made brilliant and brave decisions that saved his crews lives. Which is why I would follow Captain Phillips.

The movie was edge of your seat and I found myself talking to the screen saying things like “don’t go there” or “eek don’t leave him with that guy” almost like you would find in a horror movie. You never knew what was going to happen next; the problem is that it tended to drag on for a little too long. While it was entertaining I felt like they could have wrapped it up a little sooner. This movie is worth $20 at the movie theater I say go and see it now you won’t be disappointed. Share your thoughts on this and other movies at www.yourmediaworld.com.
