Summer of Sequels or Hollywood SOS

I admit it this summer of sequels and remakes has me wanting to spend that $20 at the movies. Iron Man 3, Hangover 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, Gatsby, Man of Steel and the list goes on.
The question is..is it worth it? Are these quality movies or is Hollywood out of ideas and just trying to make a buck? How many sequels in the history of sequels have been good? Really?
Star Wars  (original) that is a given, The Godfather Part II, Aliens (but the ones after this go down hill), The Dark Knight… Sequels based on books like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter  etc tend to continue to deliver but that might be due to the solid foundation of the book not Hollywood.

Iron Man 3 is better than 2 Robert Downey Jr delivers and is perfect cast for Tony Stark plus everyone likes to see a woman kick some ass, go Pepper Potts. Star Trek Into Darkness is another quality J.J. Abrams film delivering action that is sure to continue to generate new life into the franchise. Gatsby has an updated soundtrack, amazing cinematography, and Leo is a Great Gatsby.

But in reality most sequels aren’t worth the film they are made on.  The Lost world: Jurrasic Park, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and The Next Karate Kid to name a few. Hollywood hooks you with the original great film and then cuts corners or even switches actors on sequels.  The director and screen writer of Hunger games announced his departure from the sequel Catching Fire due to the tight and fixed production. For the Avengers sequel they are already talking of switching cast so they don’t have to pay the large salaries that drew us to that movie originally. Hollywood is trying to turn around a movie while the iron is hot but is it at the expense of the film?
